Kitchen well of Konark Sun Temple
There used to exist Kitchen Wells in ancient temples that provided water for the preparation of Anna Bhog to be offered to the presiding deity. Lots of vessels were used to draw water from these wells as seen in the upper portion of the attached image which is of an ancient temple at Ekamra Kshetra (Bhubaneswar). The use of vessels in the black and white picture clearly suggests that a similar procedure might have been implemented in Konark Sun Temple too as evident in the colour picture below the black and white one.
In the lower portion of the attached image we can see the kitchen well of Konark Sun Temple. Here we can see the depressions formed on the hard stony ground possibly caused due to the pressure of the water drawing vessels. This also alludes to the possibility of Anna Bhog being prepared in Konark Sun Temple for the presiding deity (Surya) and debunks the theory that the Konark Sun Temple was half built or incomplete.
